Project SHADOW
Deerghayu Foundation, launched Study of Hypertension, Diabetes and Obesity among Women (SHADOW) in Udaipur, India. During this campaign, a team of 12 nurses and two project managers conducted door to door screenings for blood sugar, blood pressure and abdomen obesity for 15000 women in 36 villages across various districts in Western India over 18 days in one of the largest non-
communicable diseases (NCD) awareness and prevalence study of its kind, in rural India.
Dr. Damodar Bachani, MD, MPHM is the Deputy Commissioner (NCD) in Ministry of Health & Family Welfare at Government of India. He is a reputed author of several studies published in India and abroad. He also serves as Director Professor at Department of Community Medicine, Lady Hardinge Medical College & Associated Hospitals, New Delhi.
Betsy Rodriguez serves as senior deputy director of the National Diabetes Education Program (NDEP) at the Center for Disease Control (CDC) in Atlanta, USA. In 1991, she founded the Programa Educativode Salud Integral, Inc. (PESI), a health education and prevention program with a multidisciplinary approach. Nurses, dietitians, health educators, diabetes educators, community health workers and social workers provide the services.
Dr. Garima Chaturvedi received her MD in Internal Medicine from John Hopkins University affiliated hospital in Baltimore, USA in 2008. Her specialty is treatment of metabolic disorders and she was awarded by American College of Physicians for her study. While living in US, Dr. Chaturvedi received appreciation for her volunteer work for the underprivileged in US by then President George W. Bush in 2004. She is practicing in India since 2010 as an specialist on diabetes.
Anand Chaturvedi is a parallel entrepreneur, experienced marketer and a business strategist.
Prior to starting his own companies, Anand led business development and strategy formulation for major global corporations. With his experience of working in diverse cultures across three continents and dealing with multiple professions, Anand realized that the problems of health care too can be solved cost effectively by principles of good management. He received his MBA from Darla Moore School of Business, University of South Carolina and has a degree in Mechanical Engineering from Rajasthan Technical University, India.
